The day had arrived!
Despite checking the weather constantly leading up to the start of my 20 day ride, and all sites showing the forecast as sunny and warm, north idaho and western washington instead had pretty much a torrential downpour.
I really didnt want to put the start of the journey on hold, so as the afternoon of Tuesday 6/17 came I mounted the rest of the gear on the bike and decided to hell with it, lets get started!
Unfortunately it became evident right away that this was going to be a tough start to the adventure… Here is a quick 1:30 video of the start of the ride through Coeur D’Alene Idaho. As you can see, it was pretty gross even just around town:
Now imagine that at 70 mph with a semi truck in front of you. Yeah… so basically I made it roughly 70 miles in horrible weather and made the call to stop in lovely Sprague Washington. There is one motel in Sprague and they probably could have charged me any amount for a room at that point, I was happy to pay it.
After shedding my riding gear and clothes, I set them as close as I could to the cranked heater and fell into bed, hoping the next morning would be a much more enjoyable ride.
As luck would have it the rain did let up in the morning and while the clouds stuck around, the forecast showed clear skies and sun for the next leg of my journey to central washington and then Seattle. Renewed after a good nights rest, I packed the gear on the bike and headed west.
Ill be posting more later on day 2 of the ride! (Seattle)
