Now for an accounting of the gear I will be using on the trip as well as what I am packing.
First the fun stuff! Got a sweet new Torc T22B Bluetooth helmet with Blinc 3 audio. SUPER stoked to have this for the long rides to listen to music from my phone as well as be able to take calls, and maybe even some Nav if I get lost along the way.
In addition to the bluetooth, its fully modular, so I can flip up the front face entirely – which I will be very grateful for when I get into Nevada and Utah in July! It also has a flip down sun screen behind the clear visor so lots of options for whatever the sun decides to bring me on a given day.
As far as the rest of the gear Ill be wearing, most of my stuff is pretty basic and actually on the cheap end:
- FieldSheer riding jacket with protective shells around the shoulders, arms, and back.
- River Road riding gloves – very basic style with breathe holes. (I also have a burly set of no name gloves for rain/cold)
- Face and neck bandana
- Rhino leather lace up boots
Now for whats in the pack:
First of all this is quite a bit of stuff! However, luckily I am able to compact it quite a bit via various ziplocks and dry bags. Still, this is all going into an estimated 40ish Liter bag and a front fork bag, so not an easy task!
Here is the list of goodies:
- Hatchet
- Fire starter
- Knife
- Swiss Army knife
- Life Straw
- Emergency Blankets
- Toolkit
- Led Flashlight
- LED Lantern
- Ecigarette stuff – Dont Judge!
- First Aid Kit
- Organic Freeze Dried ready meals – Bare Burrito, Oatmeal, and Kettle Chili – all super delicious I am sure…
- Snacks – luna bars, energy jelly beans, and tea!
- Toiletries – pretty much everything you would want, bodywash, wipes, shave cream, razor, toothbrush, toothpaste… etc. And also I wear contacts so additional pairs, solution, etc.
- Mess kit with a pot, pan and lid.
- Spork
- Camp Soap
- Lighter
- Rubbing Alcohol (for the camp stove!)
- Mug
- Water bottle (Plus I have another canteen not pictured)
- Home made camp stove!
The home made camp stove is especially cool:
Essentially all you need to make it is a beer can and a pocket knife. You cut the beer can into to a bottom and top piece, and remove the top by cutting that off along the edges as well. Next you create divits in the top portion by pressing in the pocket knife along the sides. Finally slide the top portion into the bottom and boom, finished! It runs on the rubbing alcohol and only takes a little bit to get going and boil some water.

You can also find lots of neat posts and articles about all kinds of travel at that site! (Shameless plug as its run by my older brother) So definitely visit Squattheplanet.com and look around!
To wrap up the list a couple of other things:
- Clothes – one dry sack of the following: 1 towel, 1 swim trunk, 3 chonies, 3 pairs of socks, 4 tshirts, 1 pair of shorts, 1 pair of jeans, 1 beanie, 1 long sleeve shirt – as well as the clothes I have on my back the first day…
- Workout clothes – I know, maybe ridiculous to some, but I gotta… dry sack of f 1 pair of running shoes, 1 pair compression socks, 1 pair of workout shorts, 1 workout shirt.
- The tent – a Eureka Solitaire 1 person tent. Havent used it much but it seems pretty awesome, easy setup and lots of space for a 1 person tent – 8 feet length-wise so plenty of room to bring my pack into the tent with me.
- A workout mat I will be using as a sleeping mat – about 1/2 inch think – not much but it will have to do
- A Go Pro Hero (first version I believe) borrowed from a friend and some mounts – handlebar mount, chest mount, and helmet mount. I will probably be mostly using the handlebar mount on the bike, and then chest mount when walking around. Be sure to come back for videos!

Lastly Ill be adding a pic of the pack all set up on the bike later today.
